The Fox Barge on the Shannon

The Fox Barge on the Shannon
Syd Shine and the original Fox Barge on the Shannon. Built in 1865 the Fox started life as a steam tug for the Grand Canal Company before transferring to the Shannon as a Board of Works maintenance boat in 1910. Her steam engine was replaced with a motor engine in 1923. She was decommissioned in 1956 and subsequently bought by the musician Syd Shine. He ran the Fox as a training ship. The Fox was sold in 2015 and is now based on Lough Derg.
